Waukesha County, Wis., Feb. 27, 2019 – In 2018, 168 different nonprofit organizations in Waukesha County benefited from grants awarded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, its donors and affiliates, including the Oconomowoc Area Foundation. In all, the foundations made 340 grants totaling nearly $3.8 million to Waukesha County agencies.

These community investments also are reflected in the grand total of more than $80 million in grants released in 2018 to agencies throughout the four-county area and worldwide by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and its many donors and partners, based on preliminary financial figures. Over the last five years, the community has benefited from over $315 million in grants from GMF.

Grants include strategic and responsive investments authorized by GMF and OAF boards using discretionary resources, as well as grants and co-investments made through the funds of those who partner with the foundations for their philanthropy. OAF is a permanent, charitable endowment dedicated to supporting the interests and advancing the legacies of its donors while inspiring philanthropy and strengthening the greater Oconomowoc community. It is a supporting organization and regional partner of GMF.

“The Oconomowoc Area Foundation’s Board of Directors considers our annual grant process an extraordinary privilege and we take this responsibility very seriously,” said Maribeth Bush, OAF foundation coordinator. “As our foundation grows, so will our ability to help fund the nonprofits impacting the Oconomowoc area and the many needs of the greater community.”

“Community foundation grantmaking is like holding up a mirror to the community’s hopes and needs,” said Ellen Gilligan, Greater Milwaukee Foundation president and CEO. “In any given year, you can see the activities and aspirations of the community reflected in those programs and investments, and each year builds on the legacy of all those who have given generously throughout the last century to bring those aspirations to life.”
